Dorset marine firm MCI signs Europe wide distribution deal with USA's Lasdrop Shaft Seals
Dorset-based maritime equipment specialist Marine Components International (MCI) has signed a new European distributor deal with Lasdrop Shaft Seals, a leading manufacturer of marine dripless shaft seals.
The move strengthens MCI’s partnership with the US based business. It already holds UK distribution rights for Lasdrop’s products and the deal will also allow MCI to further develop its already extensive presence in Europe.
MCI will be highlighting the product range at METSTRADE, the world’s largest trade exhibition of equipment, materials and systems for the international leisure marine industry, in Amsterdam, November 15-17.
MCI managing director Andy Scott said:
“We are very excited to announce this new deal with Lasdrop Shaft Seals and the opportunities that it presents. We already have a great working relationship with Lasdrop through our UK distribution deal. We will be holding a significant stock of the company’s wide range of products and that will allow us to service the European market with very quick delivery.”
“Lasdrop continues to innovate, update and improve. It is the oldest manufacturer and pioneer of dripless shaft seals in the marine industry and is still leading the way today with its premium product range.”
Easy and quick to install, with compact design options, competitive pricing and suitable for almost every installation, Lasdrop dripless shaft seals can be found on vessels ranging from small sailboats to tugboat and transportation vessels and luxury yachts. They are also used by the US Coastguard.
Lasdrop was founded by retired French navy sailor Bernard Perrin in 1975 and was acquired by Kyle Mosher of Michigan in May of 2020. Mosher has invested in a new facility that now produces all Lasdrop components with state of the art CNC machinery and tooling producing higher quality components with more consistency, tighter tolerances, better finishes, and the ability to react to unique customer requirements.
“We are all really excited about expanding our presence in the UK and European markets with MCI,” says Mosher, “Our unique ability to efficiently manufacture both mechanical face seals and lip seals under one roof will give a lot of flexibility to MCI when speaking with customers about new builds and retrofits. We couldn’t be happier with the relationship and are excited about what the future holds.”
Mosher said the entire Lasdrop family of products have been updated and improved upon prior models and versions, and there are exciting future innovations in the works. As well as Lasdrop, MCI will also be using METSTRADE to highlight a range of other innovative products. These include:
- The Calypso Ultra-Low Power Wired Ultrasonic anemometer, an extremely accurate and reliable wind speed and direction device with minimal power consumption
- TEMO, the first portable, electric-powered outboard motor designed for dinghies, tenders and small boats. MCI will also be introducing the new TEMO 1000 model set to be launched to the market in mid-2023
- Echopilot’s industry leading 3D Forward Looking Sonar. MCI will also be able to share some of the new Echopilot product development that is underway
METSTRADE is also an opportunity for MCI to showcase the BSB A60 range of fire dampers, the US-manufactured Groco range of bronze valves and strainers and Dr Shrink, the world’s leading manufacturer of shrink-wrapping materials and equipment.
